The spectrum of activities of the department covers the surgical treatment of all types of injury and degeneration (wear and tear) of the musculoskeletal system in adults and children, including the spinal column and pelvis. The areas of focus here are arthroscopic operations on the knee, shoulder, hip, hand and ankle joints as well as the implantation of artificial joints in the hip, knee and shoulder. State-of-the-art instruments and materials (e.g. titanium) are used in these procedures.

The Trauma Surgery Department is a member of the North-West Trauma Network.

Outpatient preparation for surgery: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 15:30.

Each year in the Department of Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery an average of

  •  1800 patients are treated as inpatients and
  •  1700 operations are performed 

A total of 7000 patients visit the Outpatient Clinic for first aid or emergency treatment.
The department provides treatment on a daily basis for accidents at work and is licensed by the statutory accident insurance institutions to treat seriously injured patients and is fully authorised to conduct further professional training in trauma surgery.
The new surgical wing at the St. Barbara Klinik is equipped with the latest surgical equipment in all operating theatres, including germ-removing laminar flow air conditioning and all the options offered by arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery

The new helicopter landing pad on the roof of the hospital, which conforms to the latest EU directives, and the new emergency room next to the emergency entrance with high-speed spiral CT, digital X-ray unit and direct connection to the operating theatre and helicopter landing pad ensure the speedy treatment of trauma surgery patients.
