Ophthalmology is a key component of the Medical Head Centre
A fundamental aim of our Ophthalmology Clinic – and of the entire hospital – is to provide comprehensive advice and information to the patient. After performing a thorough diagnosis, we then employ a wide variety of drug and surgical treatments.
Key areas of focus here are laser surgery (interventions to combat clouding of the lens and internal ocular pressure), retinal and vitreous body surgery (implantation of special lenses), strabology (squint surgery), plastic lid surgery and tear duct surgery.
Over the past few years the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other retinal diseases has become a major feature of the department with the surgical insertion of medications in the vitreous cavity and photodynamic therapy (PDT).
With microsurgery we have a technology that enables us to perform operations that cause a minimum pain and trauma to the patient. Operations can be performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis.
Of particular assistance in our diagnostic activities is the use of the latest methods of fluorescence angiography (imaging of the vascular system and blood flow in the fundus of the eye) and ultrasound investigations.
